Waitrose Swindon

Kilo Properties worked closely with grocery retailer Waitrose and Swindon Borough Council to deliver a new food store in the heart of Witchelstowe, a new residential area just south of Swindon.

The 3176m2 store is part of a canal front scheme, which will deliver 3500 new homes and community facilities. So, as part of the council’s design code for the new area, the store and parking facilities for 250 cars is an urban street feel that includes a bike and pedestrian walkway and a bridge link across the canal.

Working with the council’s planning committee and local interest groups, we ensured the contemporary design was made with high quality sustainable materials so it sits well within the rural location and also complements the new housing development.

The store was completed on programme and within budget with an investment value in the region of £15m.

At the Retail Week Interior Awards in November 2014, Waitrose Swindon was winner of the Food and Supermarket Design of the Year award. It has also been shortlisted in the Store Design of the Year category at the Oracle Retail Week Awards 2015.
